The Red Wings activated a 48-hour buyout window after signing Joe Veleno to a two-year deal, allowing Detroit to terminate contracts over $4 million AAV.

Speculation surrounds Ville Husso as a potential candidate for a buyout. Newcomer Cam Talbot's wife, Kelly, grew up in Detroit. Talbot on the competition in net:

«There's going to be a competition no matter what between the three or four of us. I feel healthy and good even at my age. I played 54 games last year and made an All-Star appearance, so I feel I still have a lot left to give.

Max Bultman of The Athletic explains why restricted free agents Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond haven't signed yet. Their long-term deals will form the foundation of Detroit's cap structure. Fans are anxious, but both deals should get done.
