It's just like the old days when the Red Wings not only chase the opposition's goaltender on the road but octopi hits the ice from the Detroit faithful!

Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan said that he was looking forward to seeing how his team would respond after a lackluster 6-3 loss to the lowly San Jose Sharks at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday.

And they came through for him in a big way, winning 5-2 over the Florida Panthers in their 1st matchup of the year against their divisional foe which also happens to be the current Stanley Cup champions.

Not only did the Red Wings chase goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky from the Florida net, but elated Detroit fans made sure there was some octopi on the ice at Amerant Bank Arena.

The Red Wings scored 3 separate power play goals, as Jonatan Berggren, Dylan Larkin, and Patrick Kane all scored to keep Detroit's special teams scorching hot.

After Marco Kasper's goal made it 4-2 for Detroit, Panthers head coach Paul Maurice had seen enough and lifted Bobrovsky in favor of Spencer Knight.

It was up to Red Wings goaltender Cam Talbot to hold down the fort the rest of the way and he did just that, ultimately making 41 stops and picking up his 11th win in his 1st year in Detroit.

Larkin would score an empty-net goal to seal the win, meaning that the Red Wings have now won 8 of 10 games since McLellan was hired to replace the terminated Derek Lalonde behind the Detroit bench.
