Red Wings have some big decisions to make regarding Veleno
The Red Wings will have to decide if they plan on keeping restricted free-agent Joe Veleno this summer as his one year contract has expired.
Veleno signed a one year $825,000 deal last summer in hopes of proving he is worth a lengthier contract this season. The young center did have career highs across the board but failed to take a big leap forward.
GM Steve Yzerman will have a busy summer with free agents and re-signing multiple players but will definitely have to decide how he wants to go about the Veleno situation.
There has been some speculation that the Wings might be interested in signing Veleno to another 1 year deal worth around $1.8 million to see if continues to progress.
I believe the Detroit Red Wings would benefit from another one-year 'prove it' deal for Veleno. The protean forward proved valuable as a fourth-line player who was also utilized as a penalty killer. I'd expect the possible one-year deal to cost around $1.8 million. - Heyrman
