The Detroit Red Wings know all about having top Swedish players in their lineup, and they've been reported as a team allegedly interested in a top Swedish Canucks forward involved in recent trade rumours.

The Detroit Red Wings have rattled off 5 consecutive victories, completely erasing what was once a tie for last place in the Eastern Conference under the leadership of new head coach Todd McLellan.

But could general manager Steve Yzerman be looking to make a key addition to his roster?

The Fourth Period lists the Red Wings as one of a handful of teams to have alleged interest in acquiring Swedish Vancouver Canucks start forward Elias Pettersson, who has been involved in trade rumours in recent months.

The New York Rangers are among the teams interested in Miller, while clubs like the Buffalo Sabres, Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders are just a few of the clubs believed to have interest in Pettersson.

Meanwhile, Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman noted that the Canucks have taken calls on Pettersson's availability (along with forward J.T. Miller), but that the price to acquire him won't be inexpensive.

I do think they've talked to other teams about Pettersson. I do think they've talked to other (teams) about Miller. I think they prefer to keep both guys, they've seen what they can do. But they're listening.

Pettersson is under contract through 2031 and has a significant AAV (average annual value) of $11.6 million, which would make him the highest paid member of the team automatically.

He has 28 points (10G, 18A) in 34 games played so far this year; he's only 2 years removed from having scored 102 points (39G, 63A).

Even if the price were high, would you want the Red Wings to acquire Elias Pettersson from the Canucks?
