Unthinkable devastation is ravaging California right now, and Red Wings coach Todd McLellan has ties to the area as the former coach of the Los Angeles Kings.

The Detroit Red Wings gathered for practice this morning at Little Caesars Arena, but head coach Todd McLellan can be excused for having part of his mind elsewhere.

Wildfires continue to wreak havoc on Southern California, where McLellan once coached as the head coach of the Los Angeles Kings.

McLellan said that he still has friends and family in the area, and that the entire organization is sending its thoughts and support to those affected by the ongoing disaster.

Let everybody know that Hockeytown here in Detroit is thinking of those people in L.A. I'm not just saying that obviously because I have a lot of friends and still some family there. We're obviously aware of what's going on there and we were sending our prayers to those people.

That's a tough (thing) to say, 'Hey, I'm OK,' because a lot of people aren't.

While McLellan still has a home in the area, he said that the wildfires haven't affected where he once lived yet.

If you've lived there, you understand the density of the trees and how dry it can be, and the wind funnels through those mountains and it just howls. Those poor firefighters and poor people they have no chance.

The Kings have already been forced to postpone a game thanks to the ongoing situation.

All of us at Red Wings Insider send our thoughts and prayers to those affected by the devastation in California, especially to those who have lost their homes/businesses as well as the firefighters and first responders working past exhaustion.
