The clock is ticking for the Detroit Red Wings as the NHL trade deadline approaches on March 7th.
Although there are still 12 days left to make a deal, the patience of the Red Wings fan base is running on empty.
As history tends to repeat itself, the Detroit Red Wings general manager, Steve Yzerman, has been known to stay tight-lipped regarding any major adjustments or moves.
Yzerman, known for his discretion, typically finalized deals without any leaks, leaving fans and insiders to find out at the same time as everyone else.
Despite his closely guarded plans, several NHL insiders have linked the same group of potential trade targets to Detroit.
According to The Fourth Period's latest trade board, three players have been consistently mentioned in connection to the Red Wings
One name that is mentioned time and time again, would be the one and only, Dylan Cozen.
The 23-year-old center, who currently plays for the Buffalo Sabres, is in his second year of a seven-year contract, worth $7.1 million annually.
Despite having a somewhat disappointing season so far, with just 27 points in 55 games, Cozen remains an extremely valuable asset.
Averaging at 17:20 minutes of ice time per game, it is no secret this stud would make a great addition to the Red Wings, as they are in dire need of a strong center.
Beyond his offensive abilities, he has extensive strength in winning faceoffs. This would be a major boost for the Red Wings, who have been struggling in the faceoff circle this season. Cozen currently boasts a 50.5% faceoff win percentage.
However, Dylan Cozen is not the only trade candidate being mentioned.
Vancouver Canucks'
Elias Pettersson has been connected to several teams recently, with the Red Wings being one of them.
It has been noted, with such a troubled season thus far, it might best to give him the clean slate needed to succeed in his career.
This clean slate might just be the Red Wings.
Another potential candidate brought up time and time again is Anaheim Ducks'
Trevor Zegras.
Last season, Zegras was limited to 31 games, and has participated in only 33 games so far this season.
Maybe Detroit will give him the opportunity he needs in order excel within the organization.
However, the playoffs are creeping in, the pressure to make decisive moves is on Yzerman.
Whether these high-profile names end up in Detroit or not, fans anxiously await the next chapter in the Red Wings' playoff push.
