The Detroit Red Wings have officially decided on their starting goaltender for Thursday's game against Columbus, their 1st road game under Todd McLellan.

The Detroit Red Wings have won consecutive games under new head Coach Todd McLellan, who was hired one week ago to replace the terminated Derek Lalonde.

They've earned consecutive 4-2 victories over the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesars Arena, and now play away from Hockeytown for the 1st time under McLellan when they play the Columbus Blue Jackets at Nationwide Arena (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).

It's their 1st matchup against the Blue Jackets since their dramatic 4-3 overtime win at Little Caesars Arena in March; Patrick Kane scored the winner:

McLellan has made a change in the lineup with regard to goaltending, as he's decided Cam Talbot will make his return to the crease for tonight's game, as confirmed by Detroit Free Press beat writer Helene St. James.

Alex Lyon started in the two aforementioned wins over Washington and Pittsburgh; Talbot started on December 27 against the Toronto Maple Leafs and was pulled after allowing five goals after 40 minutes of play.

Talbot has mostly played well for the Red Wings in his 1st season wearing the Winged Wheel, but largely hasn't gotten the offensive support that he's needed.

Talbot is largely seen as a placeholder for the Red Wings while prospects Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine get more seasoning in the American Hockey League and Michigan State University, respectively.

The Red Wings also have Alex Lyon and Ville Husso under contract through this year; both goaltenders can hit the open market as free agents on July 1.
