It's a play that not many defensemen in the NHL can pull off, but rookie Red Wings defenseman Albert Johansson has gone viral for his defense against Connor McDavid in last night's 3-2 shootout win.
The Detroit Red Wings found themselves trailing 2-0 to the Edmonton Oilers in last night's game at Rogers Place in the 1st period thanks to a pair of separate defensive miscues.
Rookie defenseman Albert Johansson also went viral during the game for his key defensive play on Connor McDavid, arguably the top forward in the NHL today.
Johansson has impressed in his brief time in the NHL; he got his opportunity thanks to an injury to defenseman Jeff Petry, and is making the case to stay in the lineup when Petry is healthy enough to return.
Defensive errors hurt the Red Wings in the 1st period
The Red WIngs surrendered the 1st two goals of the game thanks to a series of blunders.
Ben Chiarot failed to clear a bouncing puck, which landed right on the stick of Leon Draisaitl; he made no mistake and beat goaltender Alex Lyon with a quick wrist shot.
Soon after, the Red Wings and Lyon failed to cover a loose puck in the crease, which resulted in one of the easiest goals that Jeff Skinner would ever score in his career, making the score 2-0.
The Red Wings bent, but didn't break. Slowly but surely, they pushed their way back into the game with a pair of 2nd period goals and an incredible start from Lyon, who finished with 45 saves by the time things were said and done.
