This season, the Detroit Red Wings are looking to get over the hump and get back into the postseason after a few disappointing seasons.

Of course, this is a lot easier said than done. However, the team has added some veterans in the offseason. For instance, Vladimir Tarasenko and Cam Talbot are now on the roster. However, according to Dave Hogg of NHL.com, the Red Wings are missing a key piece to the puzzle right now.

As Hogg explains, the Red Wings lack defensive-minded forwards. Instead, they have talented forwards who are not known for their backchecking. Patrick Kane, Alex DeBrincat, and Lucas Raymond are some of the players who are great scorers, but liabilities on defense. Meanwhile, Hogg also feels as though the Red Wings could add a stay-at-home defenseman to make their pairings more even.

Signing these kinds of key players is easier said than done. However, Steve Yzerman has made it clear that his goal is for the Red Wings to make the playoffs. If he wants that to happen, he will need to put in as much effort as possible.
