Red Wings seem to have made a big mistake with this 2019 draft pick
The Red Wings drafted Gustav Berglund back in 2019 and while they had high hopes for him it does not seem to be paning out .
Berglund was traded yesterday to Brodernas/Vasby in Sweden's third division which is home to zero prospects.
Yzerman had high hopes for the prospect saying he is a talented D-man with good size and was hoping he would play for the Swedish World Junior team.
«He's a talented guy with good size,» said Hakan Andersson, Detroit's head European scout. «I'm hoping within a year or so he's going to challenge for a spot on the Swedish World Junior team. That's the first step.»
However, since the 2019 draft, Berglund has only managed to play 15 games in the SHL which is Sweden's top league and has continued to struggle in the third division.
While the door on the NHL is not completely shut, it does not look good for the young defenseman.
