The Red Wings should target this NHL superstar
With the NHL off-season soon approaching, the latest big hockey superstar entering the trade rumour mill is Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers.
"Ehlers is heading into the final year of his contract that comes with a $6 million salary-cap hit, and at 28 years old, he's been a regular 25-goal, 60-point scorer. The tough part about trading for Ehlers is the Red Wings have a couple of internal signings to take care of first with restricted free agents Moritz Seider and Lucas Raymond. Those are going to be beefy contracts and the $29 million in cap space they have at the moment will evaporate quickly. The Detroit Red Wings could surely benefit from Ehlers's high end offensive firepower. Although the Red Wings are currently facing tight salary cap restrictions, general manager Steve Yzerman still has the capability of moving assets around to free up some space. Last season, Ehlers notched 25 goals and 36 assists and was a +27 rating in 82 regular season games. Could we see Nikolaj Ehlers be the newest addition in Hockey Town?
