The Detroit Red Wings are pushing for a playoff spot in the 2024-25 NHL season, but certain players may experience a decline that could impact their ambitions.

Here are three Detroit Red Wings who are likely to regress this season:
Patrick Kane:
Despite his impressive comeback from injury last season, Patrick Kane's age (36) and the quality of his line may hinder his ability to maintain his recent performance levels. While he scored 20 goals and 47 points in 50 games, expecting him to replicate or improve on this output may be unrealistic. His goal-scoring rate was the highest since 2019-20, but a slight decline is inevitable as he ages.
Cam Talbot:
Cam Talbot had an inconsistent 2023-24 season with the Los Angeles Kings, marked by strong early performances followed by a severe slump in January. His playoff performance was particularly concerning, with a 5.30 GAA and .861 SV% in three starts. At 37 years old, Talbot is unlikely to shoulder the load as a starter for Detroit Red Wings, especially with younger goalies in the mix.
Alex Lyon:
Alex Lyon was a feel-good story last season, nearly helping the Detroit Red Wings make the playoffs. However, as a career backup with limited experience as a starter, his extended run last season may have been an outlier. At 32, and after starting 43 games with a 21-18-5 record, Alex Lyon may struggle to replicate those numbers, especially as he faces increased competition for playing time.
