The hiring of Todd McLellan to replace former bench boss Derek Lalonde is already paying dividends for the Detroit Red Wings, who have now won two straight.

The Detroit Red Wings have now won two straight games under Coach Todd McLellan, who was hired to replace now-former coach Derek Lalonde one week ago.

They've defeated the Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins at Little Caesars Arena, and have now embarked on the road to take on the Columbus Blue Jackets later tonight at Nationwide Arena (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).

Following anther intense practice on Wednesday, McLellan noted that he's already seeing results of what they've worked on show up in games.

Some areas we've picked (to concentrate on), we've gone after it pretty hard and there haven't been many, but we have picked and we've worked hard in practice and we're seeing it (improvement) in games. Players are quite receptive, the effort we're getting in practice is sharp and they're getting to the rink to get better and not just practice.

So far, so good. But it's still the honeymoon. We'll see where it all goes later on.

And while the Red Wings have won consecutive games at home, they'll now be tested on the road in Columbus and then Winnipeg, something McLellan is looking forward to.

I'm excited to see how our team will respond on the road. We're a week into together as a group. We have concepts in place and they feel good about themselves. We're going into a building (Thursday) where they've lost only four times (12-4-3) all season. They have a real good home record and playing very well there. Then, going to play one of the best teams in the league (Winnipeg, 27-11-1), so the next six, seven, eight periods we're going to play, as I talked about with road maps, this will provide a road map as to where we go as a group.

Either we'll keep forging forward, or we go back and review things. I'm excited to see how the group will play.
