It's a polarizing time right now on the political landscape, especially in the hockey world where the American national anthem has been booed by pockets of frustrated Canadian fans in response to threats of tariffs on goods north of the border from US President Donald Trump.
The good news is that earlier today, it appears as though progress has been made on the issue of tariffs; President Trump announced a 30 day delay on said tariffs, while Prime Minister Justin Trudeau conversely announced a major investment in border security with a focus on drug trafficking.
American-born Detroit Red Wings forwards Patrick Kane and Alex DeBrincat have already responded to the booing of the Star Spangled Banner, and it wasn't long before Canadian-born Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan was asked about the issue.
But unlike other notable head coaches in other professional sports leagues like Greg Poppovich of the San Antonio Spurs and Steve Kerr of the Golden State Warriors, McLellan is choosing to keep his personal political views to himself.
It's the diplomatic answer for McLellan to give, as whatever his views are would likely clash with the views of at least half of the fans who support the Red Wings.
