A proposed trade involving the Detroit Red Wings and the St. Louis Blues has gained traction.

According to PuckPedia's PuckGM tool, the trade would see Detroit acquiring defenseman Colton Parayko in exchange for Axel Sandin-Pellikka, Jeff Petry, and a 2025 third-round pick.

Colton Parayko, entering the third year of his eight-year, $52 million contract, would bolster the Detroit Red Wing's blue line as a second-pairing right-shot defenseman behind Moritz Seider. Last season, he recorded 26 points in 82 games and 259 in 659 career NHL games.

In return, the Detroit Red Wings would part with top prospect Axel Sandin-Pellikka, a 2023 first-round pick who spent last season in Sweden. In the final year of his $25 million deal, Jeff Petry would join the Blues to replace Parayko, having recorded 24 points in 73 games last season.

Analyst Kyle Graden suggests that the St. Louis Blues might consider trading Parayko this season as they integrate younger defensemen into their lineup.

In reflecting on the offseason, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman expressed satisfaction with the team's additions, including Vladimir Tarasenko and goalie Cam Talbot. Steve Yzerman believes the roster improvements position the team to compete for a playoff spot in the 2024-25 season. Detroit Red Wings will start their season on October 10 against the Pittsburgh Penguins.
