Trade rumors between Detroit Red Wings and New York Islanders gaining tractions
The NHL has seen surprising late-summer transactions, shaking up several teams, including the Detroit Red Wings.
The St. Louis Blues made headlines by acquiring RFAs Dylan Holloway and Philip Broberg through offer sheets, which the Edmonton Oilers chose not to match. To compensate, the Oilers acquired Vasily Podkolzin from the Vancouver Canucks and traded Cody Ceci to the San Jose Sharks for Ty Emberson, creating some cap space.
The Columbus Blue Jackets traded Patrik Laine to the Montreal Canadiens in other major moves. At the same time, the Winnipeg Jets sent Rutger McGroarty to the Pittsburgh Penguins in exchange for Brayden Yager. After requesting a trade, Nashville Predators' Yaroslav Askarov was dealt to the San Jose Sharks.
The Detroit Red Wings have been linked to interest in Jean-Gabriel Pageau, seeking to bolster their forward depth. Although their top six is strong, adding Pageau would strengthen their third line and enhance their playoff push; for the New York Islanders, moving Jean-Gabriel Pageau could free up cap space for future trades, particularly if they aim to revamp their roster during the season.
These moves suggest that while the offseason is winding down, surprises might still occur before the new season begins.
