Its no secret that Steve Yzerman is arguably the biggest legend to play in Detroit's rich sports history. Despite being the most beloved hockey player to wear the coveted red and white, we take a second to appreciate the significance a former legendary player managing the team.
Steve Yzerman is more than a good, young hockey player. He represents something Detroit hockey fans haven't had since the Gordie Howe era�hope. Oh, sure, the Red Wings have had some stars�Marcel Dionne and Mickey Redmond�in the lineup since 1970-71, Howe's last year as a Red Wing..
Yzerman was a beast for the Detroit Red Wings. Yzerman's regular-season career totals included 692 goals and 1,755 points. Yzerman was later named vice president of the Detroit Red Wings, as well as winning the Stanley Cup with the organization in 2008. He is now the current general manager of the team as they look for Stanley cup glory.
