After narrowly missing the 2023-24 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman made significant offseason moves, utilizing ample cap space to strengthen the roster.

Free Agency & Re-Signings:
G Jack Campbell (1 year, $775K): A puzzling signing given existing goaltenders, Campbell will likely mentor in the AHL. Grade: C
RW Christian Fischer (1 year, $1.125M): Re-signing the energetic Fischer enhances the bottom line and penalty kill. Grade: A
D Erik Gustafsson (2 years, $4M): A competent replacement for Gostisbehere, contributing solid defense and power-play potential. Grade: B
RW Patrick Kane (1 year, $6.5M): Kane's veteran presence and offensive prowess are invaluable. Grade: A
RW Tyler Motte (1 year, $800K): Adds defensive strength and energy on the fourth line. Grade: B+
RW Vladimir Tarasenko (2 years, $9.5M): Tarasenko's offensive firepower boosts the top lines. Grade: A
G Cam Talbot (2 years, $5M): An upgrade at backup goalie, enhancing goaltending depth. Grade: B
Trades:
Andrew Gibson to Nashville for Jesse Kiiskenen and a 2024 2nd-round pick: Solid return with potential upside. Grade: B
Jake Walman and a 2nd-round pick to San Jose for future considerations: A baffling move with minimal immediate return. Grade: D
Robby Fabbri and a conditional 2025 4th-round pick to Anaheim for Gage Alexander: Offloading Fabbri's contract facilitated the Tarasenko signing. Grade: A-
While Yzerman's moves have strengthened the roster, shoring up defense and re-signing key RFAs Seider and Raymond remain priorities.
