The hockey world has once again been thrust into mourning following the sudden death of a 17 year-old hockey player, this time in Bethpage, New York.
Connor Kasin suffered a sudden medical event and collapsed while participating in a game at the Town of Oyster Bay Skating Center, and was immediately tended to by people inside of the venue before giving way to the quickly arriving medical personnel.
He was then taken to a local hospital. Tragically, Kasin didn't recover and passed away.
Massapequa Public Schools Superintendent William Brennan made the grim announcement to a stunned and grieving town, referring to Kasin as a "cherished member" of the community known for his enthusiasm and smile.
"It is with profound sorrow that I inform you of the tragic loss of one of our beloved Massapequa High School students, Connor Kasin.
Connor was a cherished member of our school community, known for his kindness, positivity, enthusiasm, and big smile.
He had a way of bringing light and joy to those around him, and his absence will be felt deeply by all of us."
Sharks Elite Youth Hockey, also confirmed the tragic news, requesting that the community lift up his surviving family members up in prayer as they cope with their unimaginable loss.
The game Kasin was playing in was a charity event in memory of a Syosset High School graduate who had lost her own life last year.
