Huge update concerning the next contract of Leon Draisaitl and the Oilers
A major update has emerged regarding Edmonton Oilers superstar Leon Draisaitl. He has one year remaining on his contract before he becomes UFA.
Despite weeks of speculation about Draisaitl's future and the recent distractions stemming from the controversial hiring of Stan Bowman, progress has been made in contract negotiations between Draisaitl and the Oilers.
During Bowman's press conference, Bob Stauffer reported:
"It would not surprise me if Leon were to be signed to an extension shortly."
Currently earning $8.5 million annually, Draisaitl is expected to command a salary between $13.5 to $14.5 million annually on his next deal. Draisaitl's agent, Jiri Poner, emphasized the urgency, stating:
"There's no rush yet, but either it happens quickly, by end of August, or it doesn't work out at all. It will become clear whether Edmonton wants him or not."
The exact details of the potential contract extension remain unknown, but it's clear that Draisaitl will receive a significant pay raise. Motivated by the Oilers' strong potential for winning a Stanley Cup, Draisaitl is keen on staying with the team long-term.
