WATCH: Detroit Red Wings prospect Cross Hanas snipes home the shootout winner with wicked wrist shot
Not to be lost in the list of multiple exciting prospects within the Detroit Red Wings system is Cross Hanas, their 2nd round pick from the 2022 NHL Entry Draft.
The names of Nate Danielson, Sebastian Cossa, William Wallinder, Amadeus Lombardi, Axel Sandin-Pellikka and others appropriately generate excitement when thinking about the future of the Detroit Red Wings.
And not to be lost in the shuffle is 2020 2nd round pick Cross Hanas, who is now playing with the Grand Rapids Griffins alongside many of his future Red Wings teammates.
During yesterday's game against the Milwaukee Admirals, it was Hanas' turn to shine when it came to the 10th round of the shootout. He slowly skated in and soon fired a wrist shot to the back of the net, giving the Griffins the win:
Before making the jump to the AHL, Hanas scored 26 goals with 60 assists with the Portland Winterhawks of the WHL, though his stats with the Griffins haven't quite been as lofty.
Last year, he had 16 points (8G, 8A) in 58 games played; he has 8 points (5G, 3A) in 18 games with the Griffins this year.
Following his first year with the Griffins in 2022-23 and scoring 17 points (9G, 8A) despite missing stretches of games with injury, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman complimented his attitude while expressing a desire to see him improve.
He has great attitude. He had a good year last year. Two tough injuries. He worked very hard in the offseason.
We think very highly of Cross as a young man and he's a good prospect. His season was cut short by injury last year but we're optimistic.
And he did play well. A couple of goals he scored, he can put it under the bar off the half wall on the power play. He did that several times last year in GR.
He's played one year of pro hockey, he's a young guy and he's working really hard at it. He's very competitive and he's a real good person - we just hope he continues to improve.
