It was just over a week ago that the Carolina Hurricanes acquired Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall as part of a three-team blockbuster trade with the Colorado Avalanche and Chicago Blackhawks.
And now, another major trade has been announced between a pair of teams on opposite ends of North America.
The Vancouver Canucks have traded forward J.T. Miller, who played in Ann Arbor as part of the U.S. National Development Program as well as the OHL's Plymouth Whalers, back to the New York Rangers.
As part of the trade, the Rangers are also receiving Erik Brannstrom and Jackson Dorrington, and are sending Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini and a protected 1st round Draft pick to Vancouver.
It finally brings to a close an uncomfortable saga that had overshadowed the Canucks for the last several weeks, as Miller was said to have some kind of personal conflict with teammate Elias Pettersson; it was clear that a move had to be made at some point to alleviate the tension that had gripped the locker room.
Miller originally began his career with the Rangers before later being traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning and then the Canucks; he's coming off a career-best 103 points (37G, 66A) last year.
Miller has 674 points (247G, 427A) in 839 career NHL games with the Rangers, Lightning and Canucks.
Chytil has spent the last 6 years with the Rangers; he was taken 21st overall by New York in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He has 164 points (75G, 89A) in 378 career NHL games, all with the Rangers.
