With a player who doesn't rely heavily on power plays to score and whose assist stats have increased consistently year after year, coupled with steady production, there's no doubt he would be a good fit for the Red Wings.
The main problem is this: the Jets won't let him go for nothing in return. The logical reason why the Jets would trade him would be for a top defenseman. Another alternative is they make space, in terms of the salary cap, to sign a free agent this way Steve Yzerman can make an offer that would actually be appealing to the Jets.
