The Detroit Red Wings are well known for their good drafts in NHL history. They've consistently found talent in all rounds.

Here's the THN Detroit's All-Draft Team for the First Round:

Left Wing: Pete Mahovlich (2nd overall, 1963)
Mahovlich scored just 19 points in his first 82 games with Detroit but was really good in Montreal, scoring 569 points in 580 games and winning four Stanley Cups with the Habs. Despite his success with another team, he remains the best left winger the Red Wings have selected in their history.
Center: Steve Yzerman (4th overall, 1983)
Steve Yzerman, the Red Wings' most important draft pick as of today, was captain in Detroit for an NHL record of 20 seasons (1985 to 2006). He led the team to three Stanley Cups as a player. He scored 692 goals and 1,755 points, second only behind Marcel Dionne if we look at Red Wings draft picks.
Right Wing: Mike Foligno (3rd overall, 1979)
Foligno had a strong start with Detroit before being traded to Buffalo, where he scored 511 points in 664 games. He stays one of the best right wings the Red Wings have ever drafted, known for his ability to score and his polyvalence.
Defense: Niklas Kronwall (29th overall, 2000)
Kronwall was known for his big hits and defensive skills, he earned Norris votes for three straight seasons from 2012-15. His physical play and power-play ability make him one of Detroit's top draft picks.
Defense: Moritz Seider (6th overall, 2019)
Seider has quickly become a defensive star for the Red Wings, playing in tough matchups and showing leadership for the team. He stands out after a few seasons for first-round defensemen picked by Detroit.
Goaltender: Jim Rutherford (10th overall, 1969)
Rutherford played 457 NHL games which is making him the best first-round goalie pick for Detroit. He later found success in management in the NHL, winning Stanley Cups with Carolina and Pittsburgh.
