It seems like there's no end in sight for the injury woes that are ravaging the Detroit Red Wings at both the NHL and AHL levels.
Not only are the Red Wings without goaltenders Cam Talbot and Alex Lyon along with future Hall of Fame forward Patrick Kane, but the Grand Rapids Griffins lost forward Amadeus Lombardi over the weekend.
The Griffins have already been playing without forward Carter Mazur, Detroit's 3rd round pick from the 2021 NHL Entry Draft; he's been limited to just three games this year.
He was hurt on October 18 when he was the victim of a blindside hit against the Manitoba Moose:
Per Griffins announcer Bob Kaser, Mazur is still at least a few months away from returning to the Grand Rapids lineup.
Mazur already has local connections, having been born in Jackson, Michigan. He later played at the University of Denver before being taken by the Red Wings in 2021.
He later began his professional career with the Griffins in 2022-23, appearing in six games. His first full year in the AHL was 2023-24; he scored 37 points (17G, 20A) in 60 games.
Before his injury, he had a goal with an assist in three games played this year.
It was a goal of his during the offseason to add more weight and muscle to his frame, something he said in September that he accomplished by adding 13 pounds to the scale.
Every part of my game just feels better because of the 13 extra pounds I have.
