The Detroit Red Wings earned a 3-2 overtime victory over the Senators on Tuesday night, but coach Todd McLellan held the team accountable for their play in the 2nd period.

The Detroit Red Wings earned their 5th consecutive victory on Tuesday night, beating the divisional foe Ottawa Senators 3-2 in overtime and keeping the momentum from the coaching switch to Todd McLellan alive.

Patrick Kane scored on the power play in OT, securing the extra point for the Red Wings.

Detroit initially took the 1-0 lead thanks to Dylan Larkin, who now has goals in 4 straight games after going 16 without finding the back of the net.

After allowing a pair of goals in the 2nd period, Detroit tied the score in the 3rd period with a goal from Joe Veleno.

But the Senators outskated Detroit in the 2nd period, leading to a small advantage in shots.

McLellan spoke plainly about Detroit's slower 2nd period while complimenting them for ultimately finding a way to earn 2 points.

I didn't think we skated quite as well as we have in the other games. That'll happen, maybe you don't have your legs or maybe the other team is hooking and holding a little more.

But we still found a way to win a game when we were down by one heading into the third period. A little bit of a challenge for the group, a brand new experience for all of us, and give the guys credit in the third, we skated a little bit better.

Last night's win marked the 5th consecutive win for the Red Wings, who were tied for last in the Eastern Conference with the Sabres at Christmas.
