According to the latest reports, the Calgary Flames could be shopping one of their top defenseman, and it presents a unique opportunity for the Detroit Red Wings.

The Detroit Red Wings could have a unique opportunity to land another right-handed defenseman to put on their back end, as Calgary Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson is said to be on the trading block.

David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period recently visited with Winnipeg Sports Talk, discussing what it would potentially take as part of a package to acquire Andersson.

They can set the bar higher as they need to and see if anyone is going to a pay the price for Rasmus Andersson. He's a three-pronged package: first round pick, top prospect, and additional asset, or equivalent because I don't know if Calgary wants to go that road of collecting too many future assets, I think that'll depend on who the prospect is, if he's almost ready that'll factor in too, but you're looking at three strong assets to get a player like Rasmus Andersson out of Calgary.

The Red Wings recently lost defenseman Jeff Petry, a right-handed defenseman, to injury and have been playing the young Albert Johnansson in his first NHL action.

Recently, Andersson addressed the rumours that he could soon be moved from Calgary, and stated that his preference is to stay put.

I can't affect anything, right? You look at it, I have a six-team no-trade (clause). I mean, there's still 26 teams. So if they want to move me, they could move me. I could get a call right now. It's out of my hands.

But he made it clear who he can't stand, and understandably, they're all top rivals of the Oilers.

"I think people know how much I love playing in Calgary. I hate the Oilers more than anyone else. I hate the Canucks more than anyone else. That's just who I am. I feel like I've grown up in this organization, and I've always loved playing for it.

Andersson has one more year on his contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $4.55 million.
