The Detroit Red Wings are going to be without goaltender Cam Talbot for tomorrow's game against the Toronto Maple Leafs; he re-aggravated his injury today during practice.
Head coach Derek Lalonde has already announced that Talbot won't be able to play against the Leafs, and that Ville Husso will get the start.
And because Alex Lyon isn't quite ready to return, the Red Wings will have to make a call up from the AHL to serve as Husso's backup for tomorrow night and possibly beyond.
While Sebastian Cossa recently backed up Ville Husso for four games and was inserted into Monday's contests which resulted in his 1st NHL win, he was not the goalie they brought up.
Veteran Jack Campbell, who was bought out by the Edmonton Oilers during the summer and subsequently signed by the Red Wings to a 1-year contract, was officially called up under emergency conditions.
Campbell wasn't listed on Grand Rapids' roster for their upcoming game, giving a major hint.
Understandably, this was a dead-giveaway that Campbell would be getting the call up to the Red Wings for tomorrow's game rather than Cossa. Campbell recently returned to the ice after a stint in the NHL Player Assistance Program.
Additionally, reports indicated that it was going to be Campbell rather than Cossa who Detroit called up before the official announcement was made, according to an X user familiar with the Griffins' broadcast.
Jack Campbell has played for the Dallas Stars, Los Angeles Kings, Toronto Maple Leafs and Oilers during his NHL career.
