Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane gets brutally honest about his struggles
Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane has not produced at the rate he has last year, and the team has struggled as a result without his offense.
The Detroit Red Wings signed future Hall of Fame forward Patrick Kane in December of last year, and he instantly made an impact on the team.
By the time the year was done, Kane had finished just a hair under a point-per-game pace, but it wasn't a guarantee that he would re-sign with the team.
However, Kane and the Red Wings came to an agreement on a 1-year contract for his first full year with the team, and the thought was that with a complete offseason of being healthy and training, he would replicate the results.
Unfortunately, his statistical output has taken a complete nosedive. Through 24 games this year, Kane has only three goals with seven assists, numbers he knows aren't what's expected of him.
Sometimes it's OK, other times it can be better for sure. Obviously, the production hasn't been there, so it's been disappointing and probably a big reason why we're in the position we are as a team.
You're here to produce, you got to produce and it's not happening right now. All you can do is look yourself in the mirror, come into practice, work hard, try to get better, and try to make the next game your game to break through.
But I think at this point it's kind of like maybe you're hoping for things to happen and it's just not a good thing when things are going like that. You got to make it happen. So, let's make tomorrow the night to do that.
Patrick Kane's return to Detroit wasn't a sure thing
All signs pointed toward Patrick Kane departing the Red Wings in free agency, as he spoke about the team in the past tense in his season-ending press conference.
However, Kane and GM Steve Yzerman came to an agreement on a one-year, incentive-laided contract for this year.
