It was a bittersweet feeling for the Detroit Red Wings and their fans in 2017 as the franchise moved to another section of downtown into Little Caesars Arena, their 1st new home since 1979.
Meanwhile, Joe Louis Arena soon closed forever and was eventually demolished; the site of the famed former venue now is an empty field with reported plans for further development in the near future.
The Red Wings have provided fans and their players with every amenity imaginable in the still fairly brand-new (compared to most other NHL venues) building, and another upgrade is set to debut tomorrow.
A restaurant and taproom sponsored by Bell's Brewery, a popular craft brewing company operating out of Comstock and Kalamazoo, will open on Wednesday before the Red Wings face the Flyers (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
Chief Commercial Officer of Ilitch Sports + Entertainment Chris Coffman said the organization was "thrilled" to add a new experience for fans attending both Red Wings and Pistons home games.
Little Caesars Arena, also the home of the NBA's Detroit Pistons, is regarded as one of the best venues in both respective Leagues.
However, Ilitch Sports + Entertainment has faced significant scrutiny over the woefully slow development of District Detroit, which was promised as part of the deal for accepting hundreds of millions of dollars in subsidies to build Little Caesars Arena.
To date, exactly zero bars, restaurants, housing, and retail stores have been built around the venue. Next year, Little Caesars Arena will be entering its 9th year of operation.
