Detroit Red Wings roster is mostly set, making them a team to watch closely in the 2024-25 season. Their summer moves could significantly impact their future performance.

The Detroit Red Wings finished the 2023-24 season with 91 points, narrowly missing the Stanley Cup Playoffs. As the 2024-25 season approaches, here are two bold predictions for the team.

Last season, Detroit Red Wings boasted one of the league's top offensive units, led by Lucas Raymond and Dylan Larkin. This strong offensive performance is expected to continue into the new season. Despite losing key depth players-David Perron to the Ottawa Senators, Daniel Sprong to the Vancouver Canucks, and Shayne Gostisbehere returning to the Carolina Hurricanes-Detroit has added significant talent. Vladimir Tarasenko, fresh off his second Stanley Cup win with the Florida Panthers, joins the Detroit Red Wings, and defenseman Erik Gustafsson, formerly with the New York Rangers, signed a two-year contract.

These additions could enhance Detroit Red Wings offensive capabilities. Vladimir Tarasenko, in particular, has the potential for a standout season if he can excel on the power play, possibly reviving his past scoring prowess.

Young players like Lucas Raymond, coming off a 72-point season, along with Moritz Seider, Nate Danielson, and Marco Kasper, are expected to bolster the team's offensive output. Although achieving a top-three offensive ranking is ambitious, it's within the realm of possibility for Detroit Red Wings, and a dynamic attack will be crucial for a playoff push.

Defensively, the Detroit Red Wings have faced challenges in recent seasons. Despite efforts by GM Steve Yzerman to address these issues, previous trades for Ville Husso and Alex Nedeljkovic didn't pan out as hoped. With top goalie prospects Sebastian Cossa and Trey Augustine still developing, Detroit Red Wings signed veteran Cam Talbot to provide stability. Paired with Alex Lyon, Talbot's performance could offer a more reliable goaltending tandem than last year's setup. While not elite, this duo should reduce the overreliance on Lyon and contribute to a more stable defensive effort.

Overall, while some offensive regression may occur, solid goaltending is crucial for Detroit Red Wings playoff aspirations. With improvements in both areas, the 2024-25 season promises to be intriguing for the Red Wings.
