Detroit Red Wings prospects Michael Brandsegg-Nygard and Axel Sandin Pellikka experienced different outcomes during Skelleftea's Champions Hockey League opener, a 4-3 win over Austria's Red Bull Salzburg.

Brandsegg-Nygard, Detroit's 2024 first-round pick (15th overall), made a key contribution with a crucial cross-ice assist in the final minutes, setting up Andreas Johnson's game-winning goal.
However, the news wasn't as positive for Sandin Pellikka, Detroit's 2023 first-round pick (17th overall). Playing in his first game back from an undisclosed injury, Sandin Pellikka lasted just 2:38 before exiting the game, possibly aggravating the injury that had kept him out of SHL preseason action. His status for Skelleftea's next CHL game remains uncertain.
Meanwhile, another Red Wings prospect, Charlie Forslund (176th overall, 2024), delivered a standout performance for Mora IK, scoring a penalty shot goal in a 6-5 shootout loss to MoDo Hockey in Swedish J20 action. Forslund, discovered last season while playing for Falu IF in HockeyEttan, is now following a development path similar to Brandsegg-Nygard's, with Red Wings assistant GM Kris Draper expressing optimism about Forslund's potential as he continues to develop within Mora's system.
Both Brandsegg-Nygard and Forslund are seen as promising future assets for the Red Wings, with their performances being closely monitored.
