Daniel Sprong provided the Detroit Red Wings with some timely goal scoring in his first and only season with the club (18G, 25A).
But thanks to his almost non-existent back checking and the club's desire to be more defensively sound, he wasn't offered a new contract and instead agreed to a one-year deal with the Vancouver Canucks for $975K.
Just like last year with the Red Wings, Sprong scored the first goal of the season for his new team. But unfortunately, that was essentially his only highlight in a Canucks jersey.
After getting one goal in just nine games and being scratched a handful of times by coach Rick Tocchet, Sprong was traded to the Seattle Kraken, where he played in 2022-23.
On his way out the door, Canucks GM Patrik Allvin simply wished him well.
The hope was that Sprong could re-gain his scoring touch that resulted in a career-high 21G that year with Seattle, but that hasn't materialized.
He has just one goal in the six games he's played since being re-acquired by the Kraken and is on pace for just seven goals.
Should the Red Wings have looked past his suspect defensive play and retained him for this year?
