TSN analyst and former defenseman Frank Corrado took a closer look at the standings in the Eastern Conference as the calendar hit U.S. Thanksgiving, and didn't have the best of updates for when it came to the Detroit Red Wings' situation.

The calendar has officially passed U.S. Thanksgiving, which is typically where teams can have an overall sense of how their season is going and its respective trajectory toward a postseason spot or another year without one.

The Detroit Red Wings (10-10-2, 22 PTS) have managed to earn points in four of their last five games and are 6th overall in the Atlantic Division.

But are they trending toward finally ending their postseason drought, the second longest in the NHL behind only that of their divisional foe Buffalo Sabres?

According to TSN's Frank Corrado, the one Atlantic Division team on the outside looking in with the best hope to make the postseason is the Ottawa Senators.

If there is a team outside of the playoff picture who I think can still make it, I'm still with the Ottawa Senators.

Their numbers, if you take a look under the hood as far as what they're not giving up defensively, it's so much better than how it's been in the past.

Linus Ullmark just hasn't been able to play at the level that they thought he would be able to play at, and obviously that's a big reason why they're lower in the standings.

You pair that up with some players who haven't really finished at the rate you'd hope. But if one team on the outside looking in that I think still has a chance to get in, it would be at Ottawa and would probably come at the expense of the Boston Bruins.

The good news is that only six points separates Detroit from the 1st place Maple Leafs (13-7-2, 28 PTS) and only five points from the 2nd place Florida Panthers (13-9-1, 27 PTS), last year's Stanley Cup winners.

The bad news is that the Red Wings left valuable points on the table when they were outplayed and outshot earlier in the month in a pair of road games against the lottery-bound Anaheim Ducks and San Jose Sharks.

Even picking up three points out of four against them would have put them in a far more favorable position.
