Are the Detroit Red Wings getting ready to make a monumental shift in their direction?
A stunning report from ESPN's Greg Wyshynski indicated that the Red Wings could be considering to replace Derek Lalonde with Joel Quenneville:
Quenneville is best known for leading the Chicago Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup victories in 2010, 2013 and 2015 with an additional pair of appearances in the Western Conference Final.
He also served several years as head coach of the St. Louis Blues, and briefly with the Colorado Avalanche.
But his reputation took a major hit when he was included in a damning report by former Blackhawks player Kyle Beach that he failed to adequately respond to episodes of sexual abuse on Beach by former video coach Brad Aldrich.
Quenneville even wrote a positive job review for Aldrich, which helped land him a job in which he later was convicted of criminal sexual conduct with a minor in Michigan.
He was recently reinstated by the NHL and is free to seek employment, and while he's rumored to be on Detroit's radar, their fans are divided on the matter.
After Kyle Beach revealed himself as Kyle Beach in October 2021, Quenneville, then the coach of the Florida Panthers, resigned. Blackhawks general manager Stan Bowman also stepped down from his post; he's since been hired as Edmonton Oilers GM.
Quenneville has a career coaching record of 969-572-77.
