Former Detroit Red Wings forward Austin Czarnik has found new life after playing in the National Hockey League, currently playing overseas in the Swiss League.

Former Detroit Red Wings forward Austin Czarnik, who played 63 games for the team from 2022-23 to 2023-24, has found new life playing in Switzerland.

In fact, he's 3rd overall in scoring in the Swiss National League; he plays for Bern SC and has 31 points (10G, 21A) in 27 games played.

And after putting over 20,000 miles on his vehicle splitting time between the Red Wings and the Grand Rapids Griffins, Czarnik is happy to be set in one place in order to have more time with his family.

That was probably the biggest draw for me to come here [SC Bern]. Because every single night, I'm able to be in my bed here and I get to be with my kids every single day.

When everything is good at home, it helps you to be able to perform at the level that you want to perform at. Whenever I feel like you're with your family, you know that things are going well and you're there to support them every day, and that's something I really wanted to do for my wife.

Czarnik had six points (3G, 3A) during his time over a pair of years with the Red Wings. But last year, he had a lone assist in 33 games and was also waived a handful of times.

Czarnik had NHL experience before playing for the Red Wings

Czarnik already had plenty of NHL experience under his belt before coming to the Red Wings, having played for the Boston Bruins, Seattle Kraken, and New York Islanders.

In his NHL career, he had 51 points (18G, 33A) in 205 games played.

Did the Red Wings play Austin Czarnik too much last year instead of players like Elmer Soderblom and Marco Kasper?
