Former Red Wings nemesis Chris Pronger brutalizes Team Canada for awful showing in World Junior Championships
Former defenseman Chris Pronger, a longtime nemesis of the Detroit Red Wings, called out Team Canada for their abysmal showing in the World Junior Championships.
Team Canada is still reeling from their underwhelming showing in the World Junior Championships, finishing without a medal and calling into question not only the roster construction but the overall management as a whole.
Former Hockey Night in Canada host Don Cherry has been outspoken in his belief that the 2025 edition of Team Canada at the World Juniors was "cheap", and now former NHL defenseman and gold-medal winner Chris Pronger is weighing in.
After they were eliminated for a second straight year by Czechia in the quarter-finals, Pronger said plainly on his X account that Canada was lacking "identity".
I guess the next question is where do we go from here? The days of countries being nervous and afraid to play Canada are gone. Swagger gone. They actually look forward to playing Canada now. IMO that needs to change. Canadian hockey is missing an identity.'
He later followed up his initial comments:
Where is all the money that is being made going? I am sure they can allocate some of that to the program.
However, when asked by another fan about the potential of his taking up an executive role for next year's tournament, he shot down the idea quickly.
There are a lot of great candidates out there but some don't/won't do what they are told so they will never get that job.
Former Hockey Night in Canada host Don Cherry blasted Team Canada as "cheap"
Outspoken and ultra-patriotic former head coach and polarizing host Don Cherry blasted Team Canada's leadership as being far too frugal to enjoy success during a recent episode of his Grapevine podcast.
Hockey (Canada) needs a full time coach and a GM, that's for sure, right. I just think Hockey Canada doesn't want to pay. Too cheap. Doesn't want to pay, then see the crowds.
You have Michael Misa, who was on pace to score 140 points in the OHL and has 30 goals and 30 games. I mean, he didn't even get invited to camp. He didn't even get invited to camp. Wasn't even invited. I would say they need a full-time coach and GM, no doubt about it. And you know what? Has to have total control.
