Front runner emerges to land Pittsburgh Penguins' captain Sidney Crosby
The Pittsburgh Penguins are in the midst of a miserable year, and while he's under contract for another several years, a front runner has emerged with the potential to land Sidney Crosby in a monumental trade.
He's the player that Detroit Red Wings fans just love to rag on, despite the fact that their battles in the 2008 and 2009 Stanley Cup Finals are well over a decade old.
But could Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby soon find himself wearing another NHL jersey?
The Penguins are struggling immensely and things don't appear to be on the verge of improving any time soon; the prevailing thought is that Penguins GM Kyle Dubas could be preparing to sell off multiple players.
While Crosby has repeatedly stated his desire to only play for the Penguins, even despite their struggles, there is a front-runner that could have the potential to land him if the unthinkable happens and he were to be dealt.
Journalist Josh Yohe, who covers the Penguins for The Athletic, suggested the Vancouver Canucks as a possibility owing to Crosby's reported affinity for their head coach Rick Tocchet along with several former Penguins on Vancouver's roster.
If I'm Sid and I do want to be traded someday that would probably be my top choice, or right up there.
I do know that he loves Tocchet and he loves Rutherford. I know he likes Patrik Allvin and there are a lot of other former Penguins on that Vancouver roster.
So yeah, it all makes sense to me. I just think it's unlikely to happen. He's a creature of habit and he's incredibly comfortable here in Pittsburgh.
Crosby, who recently scored the 600th goal of his career, has spent his entire career in Pittsburgh since he was heavily marketed as the new face of the NHL following the 2004-05 lockout.
