Injuries have forced former Detroit Red Wings forward Damien Brunner, who played a single year for the club, to call it a career.

The Detroit Red Wings had a lone season of play from Swiss forward Damien Brunner, who has now been forced to call it a career thanks to lingering injuries.
Brunner, who has spent the last several years playing for EHC Biel in the Swiss National League, has announced his retirement from professional hockey.
Brunner played the lockout-shortened 2012-13 year for the Red Wings, scoring 26 points (12G, 14A) in 44 regular season games; he later scored 9 points (5G, 4A) in 14 postseason games.
Coincidently, 2013 was the last time that the Red Wings won a postseason series.

Damien Brunner scored one of the most clutch goals in Red Wings recent playoff history

The Red Wings played the Anaheim Ducks in the opening round of the playoffs, eventually picking up a 7-game series win.
Brunner tied the series at 2-2 with his overtime goal in Game 4, picking up a rebound of Gustav Nyquist's attempt on the net which slid off the pads of goaltender Jonas Hiller and right onto Brunner's stick.
Brunner was unable to come to terms on a new contract with the Red Wings and later joined the New Jersey Devils, signing a 2-year, $5 million deal.
But he was waived by the Devils in the 2nd year of the contract, and returned overseas and played for HC Lugano in the Swiss National League.
His numbers playing in the Swiss National League were far superior to his NHL statistics, as he reached 485 points (215G, 270A) in 563 games as opposed to 58 points (25G, 33A) in 121 NHL games.
