Is Lucas Raymond guaranteed to regress next season?
Lucas Raymond had himself a fantastic season in 2023-24 as he scored 31 goals and came through with 72 points, making him one of the best players on the Detroit Red Wings.
His totals from last season were a huge improvement upon his sophomore campaign where he only had 17 goals and 45 points. However, there are some analysts out there who believe he is likely to regress next season. In a Sports Illustrated blog from Jacob Punturi, the case was made that last season was an outlier for the forward. The argument being that his shooting percentage was just too high.
"In his first two seasons, he had 12% success rate shooting the puck," Punturi began. "In 2023, 19% of his shots on goal went in. That's nearly one in every five shots finding the back of the net. Raymond is a quality player and still improving, but don't count on him to record 70 points or more in 2024."
