Marco Kasper and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard are chasing their Olympic dream
The Summer Olympics have just wrapped up, but two Detroit Red Wings first-round picks are gearing up for a crucial challenge as they aim to secure spots for their countries in the 2026 Winter Olympic Games.
From August 29 to September 1, Marco Kasper (eighth overall, 2022) and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard (15th overall, 2024) will represent Austria and Norway, respectively, in the Olympic hockey qualifying tournaments.
Marco Kasper will compete for Austria in Slovakia, facing off against Slovakia, Hungary, and Kazakhstan for a single Olympic spot. Meanwhile, Michael Brandsegg-Nygard will play for Norway in Denmark, where Denmark, Japan, and Great Britain will also battle for one Olympic berth.
Additionally, Axel Sandin Pellikka, another Red Wings first-round pick (17th overall, 2023), is reportedly attending the team's training camp in Traverse City this fall. This season, Axel Sandin Pellikka and Michael Brandsegg-Nygard are set to play with Skelleftea, the reigning SHL champions.
