A trio of power play goals sealed the fate for the Detroit Red Wings against the New Jersey Devils today, as they overcame deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 to earn a 5-4 win at Little Caesars Arena in downtown Detroit.
And the social media team for the Devils decided to rub it in some more on social media, altering the photograph from Detroit's 5-3 October 26 victory in which Michael Rasmussen leveled Jack Hughes to the ice after scoring an empty net goal.
The photograph immediately went viral on social media, depicting a triumphant Rasmussen emanating a battle cry over his vanquished opponent:
The Devils turned the tables, instead inserting a giant L for loss on a post shortly after the final horn:
Fans began to hit right back at the Devils' social media team, pointing out the irony that the L was placed right over Hughes.
The Red Wings took a 2-0 lead thanks to goals from Vladimir Tarasenko and Lucas Raymond, who scored for the fifth straight contest.
The Devils tied the game thanks to power play goals from Dougie Hamilton and Timo Meier. Detroit also got goals from Tyler Motte and Justin Holl, while the Devils countered with goals from Jack Hughes, Nico Hischier and Stefan Noesen.
Ironically, it was Noesen whom the Red Wings accused of interfering with Cam Talbot on Hamilton's goal in the first period; the coach's challenge went in New Jersey's favor and allowed the goal to stand.
