The Red Wings have been without forward Patrick Kane for the last several games after an upper-body injury, and they've released the following update on his health.

The Detroit Red Wings have won 5-consecutive games, including the first pair of games on their 4-game Western road trip.

Their most recent win was a 3-1 victory over the Calgary Flames at Scotiabank Saddledome; Dylan Larkin, Simon Edvinsson, and Andrew Copp (empty net) scored for the Red Wings, while Dominik Shine picked up his 1st NHL point.

However, they've been without forward Patrick Kane for the last several games thanks to an upper body injury that he suffered late last month against the Dallas Stars.

The Red Wings placed him on Injured Reserve retroactive to the date that he was hurt, but the latest update on his condition is out. The Red Wings have officially activated Kane off Injured Reserve in time for tonight's game against the Vancouver Canucks (8:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, Sportsnet, 97.1 The Ticket).

Meanwhile, they've also announced that forward J.T. Compher, who has also missed the last several games after taking a high hit against the Tampa Bay Lightning late last month, has been placed on Injured Reserve retroactive to January 25.

Tampa's Emil Lilleberg was suspended for a pair of games thanks to his hit on Compher, which knocked him from the lineup.

In Kane's absence, the Red Wings have turned to the aforementioned Shine, who had spent his entire professional career in the minor leagues before getting the call up to the Red Wings last week in what he called a dream come true - especially for a player who is originally from metro Detroit and who envisioned playing for the Red Wings as a youngster.
