Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin celebrated his 700th career NHL game in style, scoring his 21st goal and helping the Red Wings to a 4-1 win over the Habs.
It halted a downturn that saw the Red Wings earn only three of a possible eight points on the recent 4-game road swing.
And while the Red Wings accumulated goals from Jonatan Berggren, Alex DeBrincat and Andrew Copp (SHG), captain Dylan Larkin marked his 700th career NHL game in style with a power play goal of his own in the 2nd period, jamming a loose puck over the pads of goaltender Samuel Montembeault.
As a player who has grown up in front of our eyes from a fresh-faced rookie in 2015 to a grown, married man and team captain a decade later, Larkin's goal was more special to him.
However, as the leader he's become, Larkin is keeping the focus on his team's important win rather than his own individual accomplishment.
Huge win for us, and a memorable night for myself. I think it's going to be memorable the way we played, and hopefully we can build off it. After that trip, coming home against a team that we didn't play well against before Christmas and we're chasing in the standings, to have a nice night like that for our team is awesome and something we can definitely build off of.
I think we skated and I thought we were the better skating team, and we got up the ice, forechecked, and caused a lot of turnovers. We looked to shoot and we got 45 shots, I think that might be a season-high for our group. We shot, got it back and continued to play offense. Even in the 3rd period, we had some sustained offense and ground them down.....our whole team was dialed in tonight.
