Bruins Complete Blockbuster and Trade Trent Frederic in three-way move with Oilers and Devils

The Boston Bruins have traded Trent Frederic in a shocking move, reported by Elliotte Friedman.

This move comes just hours after the Bruins confirmed Marchand is week to week with an upper body injury, signalling a need for a replacement.

The full trade breakdown is quite confusing, and it appears that the Bruins are throwing in the towel, as they are currently out of a playoff spot.

The Bruins are also retaining 50% on Trent Frederic's contract, making the Oilers clear winners from an outside perspective. They lost a 27-year old forward with a ton of heart, and acquired a 2021 7 round draft pick from the Oilers, Maximus Wanner, who had tallied up 1 goals and 1 assist in 22 AHL games this season with the Bakersfield Condors. Also receiving draft capitals, GM Don Sweeney acquired a 2025 2nd round pick and also 2026 fourth round pick.

The Devils traded Petr Hauser, their 2022 fifth round selection at 141 overall, and basically acted as a broker in this deal. In return, they acquired a 2021 6 round 186 overall pick from the Edmonton Oilers, Shane Lachance.

It appears that after the Bruins made this deal after they found out that their captain Brad Marchand suffered an injury, and will be out much longer than expected, hinting at throwing in the towel as they are five spots back of a Wildcard playoff spot.
