The Detroit Red Wings are beginning to heat up, having won their 4th straight game last night over the NHL-leading Winnipeg Jets.
They doubled up the Jets 4-2 thanks to a pair of goals from captain Dylan Larkin, including the empty-net goal to seal things. The Red Wings also got goals from Alex DeBrincat and Lucas Raymond.
The 4th straight win comes on the heels of the Red Wings having made their 1st in-season coaching change since the mid-1980s in late December; Derek Lalonde was let go along with assistant Bob Bougher, while Todd McLellan and Trent Yawney were hired in their place.
And Larkin's remarks after the game indicate the major difference between the two coaching staffs.
On the penalty killing, our goaltenders have been our best penalty killers, Alex was unbelievable tonight. On the power play, we've been winning 2nd and 3rd opportunity pucks in the corners, getting them out and digging them out and getting them up top, controlling them and getting them back to the net. Really simple stuff but we've been executing really well.
