Todd McLellan announces true mindset of Detroit Red Wings players after 4th consecutive victory
The Detroit Red Wings won their 4th in a row on Saturday night, beating the NHL-leading Jets in Winnipeg. Coach Todd McLellan has Detroit on a roll!
It wasn't very long ago that the year seemed like a lost cause for the Detroit Red Wings, who had lost 4 in a row and were tumbling toward the bottom of the Eastern Conference.
And suddenly, things have turned around. Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman dismissed head coach Derek Lalonde and brought former Stanley Cup-winning assistant Todd McLellan back on board, and the move has already paid major dividends.
The Red Wings have won 4 consecutive games for the 1st time this season, with tonight's win coming at the expense of the NHL-leading Winnipeg Jets at Canada Life Centre.
Dylan Larkin picked up a pair of goals, including into the empty net late in the 3rd period to seal the victory; he now has goals in his last 3 games after having gone 16 without one.
Additionally, Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat (game-winner) scored for the Red Wings.
McLellan later explained that the Red Wings got the result they deserved thanks to sticking to their game plan and the work they executed on the ice.
I think the obvious answer is yes, the belief system has grown and it's gotten stronger over the last 10 days. Essentially, you can't play without that. Structurally, we've adjusted a few things.
McLellen then noted that the Red Wings players that he took over on December 26 have been very receptive to the system he's wanted to implement.
We can do all of that, and unless you have a receptive classroom and players that are willing to either change or learn, you have no chance. I give the players credit for moving the train forward, if you will. They were very receptive, they were honest and wanted to do well, and they've tried to make things work rather than poke holes.
