The Detroit Red Wings are trading goaltender Ville Husso to the west coast, ending his tenure with the team that began in the summer of 2022.

The tenure of Detroit Red Wings goaltender Ville Husso in the Motor City has officially come to a close.
Minutes ago, it was announced that the Red Wings are sending him to the Anaheim Ducks, whom they just defeated 5-4 in overtime yesterday at Little Caesars Arena, for future considerations.
The move will give the Ducks some more depth in the crease; they recently lost goaltender John Gibson to injury earlier this week against the Boston Bruins.
Husso was in the 3rd year of the 3-year contract he signed with the Red Wings after being acquired via trade with the St. Louis Blues; the deal carried an average annual value (AAV) of $4.75 million.
It will also open up $3.6 million in cap space for general manager Steve Yzerman to work with as the Trade Deadline approaches on March 7.
Husso didn't impress in either of his pair of final years in Detroit, even getting waived twice this year and sent to the Grand Rapids Griffins.
He was pulled from his opening night start against the Pittsburgh Penguins in October after allowing five goals; his record with Detroit this year is 1-5-2 with a 3.69 GAA and a .866 SV%.
Husso has also played for the Blues, who he helped lead to the Western Conference Semi Finals in 2022 before their run was interrupted by the eventual Stanley Cup champion Colorado Avalanche.
