The Detroit Red Wings are on Long Island for their third matchup against the New York Islanders this season (7:00 PM, FanDuel Sports Detroit, 97.1 The Ticket).
But unfortunately, they'll have to go for the trifecta without one of their top forwards.
Minutes ago, Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde confirmed that Patrick Kane will be unable to play tonight at UBS Arena.
He indicated that the future Hall of Fame forward is dealing with a day-to-day situation, as reported by Red Wings insider Jonathan Mills.
Kane had routinely been playing on Detroit's second line with Alex DeBrincat and rookie Marco Kasper.
He has three goals and seven assists this year.
In addition to Kane taking a maintenance day yesterday, forward Michael Rasmussen was also absent from the ice.
Lalonde indicated that like Kane, Rasmussen was dealing with an upper-body issue.
During Saturday night's game against the Boston Bruins at Little Caesars Arena, Rasmussen took a thunderous hit into the glass, which may have been the cause of his absence.
However, Rasmussen is expected to play against the Islanders.
The Islanders are hardly a picture of health themselves, as top players Matthew Barzal, Adam Pelech, and Anthony Duclair are all unavailable due to injury.
