The Detroit Red Wings got the job done last night against the Philadelphia Flyers, earning a 6-4 win and having now moved back to the .500 level on home ice.
But one interesting tidbit of note has fans wondering if a trade could soon be in the works between the Red Wings and a division rival.
According to multiple reports, there were scouts from the divisional foe Buffalo Sabres in attendance at Little Caesars Arena:
The presence of scouts from an opposition team doesn't necessarily mean that a deal could be in the works, but given the current situation of the Sabres, almost anything is on the table.
The Sabres have several players on expiring contracts, including Jason Zucker, Jordan Greenway, and Ryan McLeod (the latter of whom will be a restricted free agent after this year).
The Sabres have fallen on extremely hard times, having lost 11 straight games and gone from 3rd overall in the Atlantic Division to dead last in the Eastern Conference.
Included in the Sabres losses was a 5-4 setback against the Colorado Avalanche in which they initially had a 4-0 1st period lead. Additionally, the Red Wings beat the Sabres last week after having trailed 1-0, 3-2, and 5-3.
The return of coach Lindy Ruff for his 2nd tenure with the organization hasn't paid off at all, while it looks like Buffalo's NHL-leading playoff drought is going to be extended for another year.
